Yes, where applicable, of course we will! Read on!
If the person wanting to visit the museum has to have a carer with them in order to visit, then they are covered by the Equality Act 2010. See https://carers.org/out-and-about/free-entry-for-carers-to-visitor-attractions. This means that attractions such as our museum shouldn't charge you as someone's carer as the person visiting wouldn't be able to visit without your support.
So we provide free entry for carers in this situation otherwise it would be like the visitor is having to pay twice, which obviously isn't fair.
No. Whilst some visitor attractions do require this, we rely on visitors honesty.
Of course if there were ever a case where relying on honesty of people's situations was taken advantage of, this may change. But, we'd like to always avoid this where possible as we certainly don't want to be introducing barriers or "red tape" to people visiting, or making their lives any harder than they need to be.
You don't need to. Book tickets for those visiting, but do not book a ticket for the carer. Simply explain in reception when you arrive and they will provide you with free entry.
Please note that we provide work experience for young adults with special educational needs (SEN) who may be staffing reception and greeting your arrival. On occassion some of our volunteers may not know all the rules or systems in place, or have the confidence or communication ability to explain them. So if for any reason you have any issues, please be patient and either show them this FAQ or ask for a senior volunteer who will come down to reception to help and make sure your visit is trouble free.
