The original Apple II was released in 1977 and was one of the very first consumer-orientated home computers. It was very successful (mainly in the USA) and variants of it were made until the 1990s. The Apple IIe (E stands for 'enhanced') was released in 1983 and has more memory than the original version. Our machine was originally used at Slough Railway station. It comes with an interface card which connects to what we think is an external genlock board. Software on floppy disc (supplied by a company called Interactive Video Learning) controlled a VHS video player and mixed this with interactive text on the screen. It was used for training staff on subjects like Railcards and Railway Geography. None of these disks work reliably, and so unfortunately we have no way to operate the genlock board - that we know of. |
