The CPC6128 was a "professional" version of the CPC464, the key differences being more memory (128 KB instead of 64 KB) and a built in disc drive. This is not the familiar Sony 3.5" format, but Hitachi's rival 3" drive (which obviously requires smaller discs). Apart from the normal AMSDOS operating system, the CPC6128 could also run CP/M, the most popular "business" operating system of the early 80s. However, by the time the CPC6128 came to market, CP/M was already obsolete, having been superceded in popularity by MS-DOS and later Windows. This CP6128 was donated in working condition, and we haven't had to do anything to it other than clean it and replace the floppy drive belt. The silvery stripe across the top of the drive was actually caused by the old floppy drive belt, which had been left on top by the previous owner and melted onto the sticker! |
